Event Description
On view at The Theater Gallery in March are EMILY BROWN’s vibrant watercolor and acrylic portraits, and also some amazing painted mannequin heads by 3D artist, KRISSY PAULUCCI. A truly unusual show!

EMILY BROWN is a young, up-and-coming local artist, and a recent graduate of the San Francisco Academy of Art University. Previously, she attended Sutter Union High School and Yuba College. While at Yuba College she was greatly influenced by her art teachers, Sara Sealander and Glenn Husted. An artist all her life, Emily was first introduced to art and taught by her grandmother, artist Gloria Walchesky. Using bright colors in her washes and waterpainting, Emily creates lifelike portraits of people, animals, and pets. She is currently open to doing portrait commission work. While her passion is to become a children’s book illustrator, she also enjoys fine art painting. In 2011, she received a summer art scholarship to study at AAU. She now has several paintings at the Children’s Creativity Museum in San Francisco. To see her children’s book illustrations and fine art, visit her website at www.emilybrownillustrations.com .

Also coming to the gallery this month are 3D mannequin heads painted by local artist KRISSY PAULUCCI. Colorful and exotic in their own right, her pieces “come to life” when viewed through 3D glasses (provided to attendees). Krissy observes, “You’ve never seen anything like it! It’s new, funky, cool, and innovative.” Having taught art to lots of different grade levels and, most recently, at Marysville Charter Academy of the Arts, Krissy is continually open to new and intriguing ideas. First, she investigates the idea, does research, and then puts her own artistic spin on it. Voila! 3D Mannequin Head Painting. The process, in her mind, derives from “pointillism” paintings created by using many tiny dots. When viewed from different angles and distances, some colors become predominant and others recede into the background. It’s like a 3D effect, and that is what she achieves, as well, in her painted figures. She is fond of using quotations or sayings, and then matching her artwork to their meanings. She begins by painting a black background, and then introduces a series of dots in the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue. Just as in pointillism, these colors work best in achieving the desired 3D effect. The result is quite remarkable. Krissy’s award-winning work has been shown at past Yuba-Sutter Fair events. Recently, her striking exhibit was on view at the Yuba-Sutter Art Gallery in Marysville.
