The Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank, Inc. filed its Articles of Incorporation with the Secretary of State on July 26, 1983. We were subsequently recognized by the Yuba County and Sutter County Boards of Supervisors as "the Food Bank" for their respective counties. In 2013, we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary...providing food to the disadvantaged in the Yuba-Sutter Communities.
We are home to the USDA Emergency Food Program, Sutter County Block Grant (Brown Bag) and Yuba County Block Grant (Brown Bag). These programs distribute food to over 3,000 families monthly. The Gleaners' also has a Daily Giveaway Program which gives bread, pastries and produce to an average of 200 families daily.
The Gleaners' is staffed by approximately 100 volunteers who accomplish the work required to meet their mission. The volunteers range in age from 50 years to 90 years.
The Gleaners' belong to Feeding America which enables them to receive donated items, i.e., bread, pastries, produce, meat, etc., which is passed on the disadvantaged in our communities.
Income is generated from the volunteers who pay $5.00 per month; Thrift Shop; fund raising efforts and donations.
We will kick off the week of July 21st with a Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our Thrift Shop on July 23rd. Keep checking this site for other events planned for this week. The week will end with a special July 26th event.
